Petition to Introduce a Tax on Foods Containing HFCS

Petition to Introduce a Tax on Foods Containing HFCS

We started a facebook petition for introduction of a tax on foods containing high fructose corn syrup.

Such a tax would raise the cost of “junk food” that contains HFCS (also known as isoglucose, maize syrup and glucose/fructose syrup), force food manufacturers to start using alternative and safer sweeteners in the foods they produce, and eventually put a stop to the obesity epidemic that started with the introduction of corn-derived syrups into virtually every kind of processed food.

We encourage you to show your support by joining this group on Facebook and telling your friends about it.

Ah-ha! That is the issue and the really sneaky part. It is in so many foods and some of them might not be considered “junk food”.

I don’t know that I would consider Stove Top Stuffing junk food. Not really healthy, but not “junk food” like cookies or a candy bar. Or Pepperidge Farm’s line of 100% whole grain breads
Sara Lee Heart Healthy Whole Grain Bread.

And cough syrups are not junk food. And what about cottage cheese? You think you are eating something healthy and it has HFCS in it!

I am looking at this list and getting disgusted!

The HFCS adds say it is ok in moderation. How can digestion of it be moderate when it is in everything?

    Sigh.
